NEXTCROP/2020 is a personal and professional leadership program for the Australian sugarcane industry, funded by Sugar Research Australia. NEXTCROP/2020 is the second time this program has been offered, with the first alumni group completing the program in 2019. NEXTCROP is designed to find and cultivate a crop of individuals who are ready to step up, work together and take their businesses and our industry to the next level. As this is the second offering, you will be joining the growing number of leaders rising up within the sugar industry.
Participants will hear from some of Australia’s best speakers on topics such as innovation, leadership and culture. You’ll connect with people from across the industry and engage with industry influencers for mentoring and project work.

Aimed at sugarcane growers, what you will have in common with other applicants is your open, creative, inquisitive mind and a demonstrated commitment to sugar industry's success.
You will be ready to step up and be a leader and you’ll have a sneaky suspicion you already are (or could be) an innovator, collaborator and change-maker.
No – we’re looking for people who are early to mid-career and have shown themselves to be an emerging leader of the sector, regardless of age.
There will be at least 10-15 applicants chosen for NEXTCROP/2020. We are looking for diversity of age, gender, and background.
Applications for NEXTCROP/2020 open on the 28th October 2019 and close on 29th November 2019. We will be looking for you to showcase why we should invest in you as leader in our next crop. Following your application, a selection panel will be convened to assess all applicants and determine who will be the NEXTCROP/2020 participants.
If you’re successful, you will be required to attend four face-to-face sessions, and two webinars and a series of online units in 2020. Click HERE to see the Program Overview. Each session will be run over 1-3 days and each will require travel to locations across Queensland and NSW. To be offered a place, you must be willing and able to attend all sessions.
NEXTCROP/2020 is funded by Sugar Research Australia,
however all participants are expected to pay $750 as a contribution to their place in the program. This will be the only outlay as all other travel and accommodation costs are covered by SRA.
You can expect to have an injection of energy and information about your own leadership journey and its impact on your business. Beyond this, it's up to you how far you go. You could aim to be involved in leadership roles, in associations bodies and be a part of innovative projects that may lead to career growth.
